Merseyside Homebase Store Shutting Down To Make Way For Controversial Supermarket
A Merseyside Homebase store is shutting down to make way for a controversial supermarket development.
Staff at the Homebase store in Meol’s Cop, Southport , were told yesterday that the shop is to close and that they would lose their jobs.
The store was at the centre of a planning controversy over a new Sainsbury’s superstore and petrol station.
Sainsbury’s wanted to take over the Homebase site and the two units next door to open a 60,000 sq ft store. It said the store would create 400 new jobs.
The plan first went to Sefton Council in October 2014 but a huge backlash from local residents meant it was referred to the Government’s Planning Inspectorate.
Campaigners, including then Southport MP John Pugh, said the plan could damage Southport town centre and put a strain on the local road network.
But the plan was approved by Communities Secretary Sajid Javid late last year.
Homebase was founded by Sainsbury’s in 1979 but was sold on in 2006.
A Homebase spokesperson said: “We can confirm that the lease has expired at our Southport store and we have entered into a consultation period regarding the proposed closure.
“Our priority now is to continue supporting team members.”
Homebase declined to comment on when the store might close or how many staff might be affected.
The company also has stores in Formby, Warrington and Upton, Wirral.
Asked when the new store might open, a Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “We are discussing our next steps with the developer and will update the community as we progress.”

How to Say Goodbye to Your Boss
You have found a new job and you're ready to give two weeks notice to your current employer. Or, you've lost your job. What's the best way to say goodbye?
First things first. Regardless of the circumstances of your leaving, if you are about to resign, your first responsibility is to let your employer know that you are resigning. You need to part on good terms and you don't want your boss hearing rumors of your departure through the grapevine.
The next step is to send a farewell message to co-workers and to let them know that you are moving on to a new position, starting a job search, retiring or doing something else with your life. It's appropriate to send an email farewell letter. You can include contact information so you can stay in touch.
Handle your departure as carefully as you would handle any other business endeavor. It's always wise to not burn bridges, because you don't know when you will need your past employers for a reference.
Review what to say and how to leave so your departure is polished and professional. If you're not sure what to write in your goodbye letter, review our sample resignation letters, resignation email message, and goodbye letters, then tailor one to meet to your circumstances.
Saying Farewell to Co-Workers
Once your boss knows you are leaving, it's fine to let your co-workers and colleagues know that you're moving on. Here are some tips for saying good-bye.
Connect on LinkedIn - if you're not already connected with your colleagues on LinkedIn, now is a good time to make that connection.
Say goodbye via email - send an email announcement or a LinkedIn message to co-workers you know well, not necessarily to the entire company. Especially if there are thousands of employees.
Keep your message brief and to the point. Do not include a long dissertation on how you hated your job and couldn't stand working for the company. Don't include the fact that you're making oodles of money at the new job, even if it's true. There is no need to criticize or brag. You want to move forward and say farewell in a positive manner.
Do mention projects you have worked on together or special times you've enjoyed together. This farewell letter is casual and personal, rather than official.
Include personal contact information, including email address and phone number, so your co-workers can stay in touch.
Review these sample farewell letters to get an idea of how to say goodbye when you're not sure what to write.
When You Have Been Fired or Laid Off
If you've been fired or laid off and want to let you co-workers know you're leaving, and you still have email access, you can send an even briefer email letter. Let them know you'll be moving on. Ask for job search assistance, if it's appropriate, and provide your personal contact information, so they can get in touch.

Tata Communications tests IoT network in Delhi Mumbai Bangalore
Tata Communications is building India's first Internet of Things (IoT) network that will allow millions of connected devices such as smart meters to talk to each other wirelessly even if the device is placed deep inside a building or 50 meters under water.
The company is deploying the Internet of Things network with the help of Low Power Wide Area Network based on LoRa technology for connected devices and IoT applications across Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.
“This will be world's largest IoT network,” Tri Pham, chief strategy officer at Tata Communications told Dailybouncer. “We see a massive need for a new smart network to enable intelligent solutions for a variety of M2M applications to facilitate a simpler and smarter way of life and at a lower cost of ownership. These trials are just the beginning; we intend to deploy this network across India and invite customers with IoT projects to work with us to test it, end-to-end.”
LoRa is a wireless communication technology dedicated to the IoT / Machine to Machine (M2M) communications network. The new network is a super low-power, secure, bidirectional, communication solution, the company said. The first phase targets to cover 400 million people across Tier 1, 2, 3 and 4 cities.

IoT is getting widely adopted across sectors where enterprises and government agencies are using it to monitor electricity meters, industrial machinery, leakages in oil pipelines and even in improving the efficiency of electrical grids.
Gartner forecasts that there will be 4.9 billion connected things globally in 2015, reaching 25 billion by 20202 - more than three times the number of people on earth .
Unlike GSM and WiFi networks, the LoRa network can enable communications in deep water and up to 50 metres underground. This makes it suitable for use in metro stations and car parks. The signal of the network is extremely strong, cutting through up to seven walls inside buildings and has a 15km range.

Livinggifts.co.in explore Green Gifting along with Flowers
Livinggifts.co.in is spreading message and have come up with options
for Green Gifting that include Natural plants that stays together and
lives together.
Jagjyot Singh
Livinggifts.co.in have been operating in India as Online Portal for Gifting
with niche emphasis on Green Gifting for everyone. We started with seed
fund capital in 2011, and since then, have build good customer strength
and network in India to deliver Natural Plants, Flowers and Gifts in India.
Inception of Living Gifts
We always thought of gifting options in our personal life for our
friends, relatives etc. that should, directly or indirectly, give
message and relate to nature and its beauty. At that point, when we use
to search in market and we never got an option for Green Gifting.
We started preparing our own gifts like Lucky Bamboo arrangement, Natural Plants, Fish bowl
and gradually got recognition from our friends. That stroked our mind
to spread this option of Green Gifting at larger scale thereby
contributing towards reducing our personal carbon footprints also.
We started selling Natural Plants and flowers through an online portal www.livinggifts.co.in and in short span of time, delivered thousands of plants in India. It was quiet encouraging seeing the overwhelming response of an audience.
Challenges in spreading the message
Even though there is gradual mood shift in selecting green gifts, people still favor flowers, soft toys etc. for gifting on different occasions like birthday, valentine
etc. Our 50% of the orders are for plants and rests are for other gifts
items. Plant Gifts are popular among gifting options for parents, grand
parents and elders in family.
Whenever we propose something out of the way, even it is benefit able,
it requires due effort to spread the message. Similar are the challenges
we are facing in spreading the idea of Green Gifting.
Social Responsibility:
We just don’t promote idea of Green gifting,
as a social entrepreneur, we try to spread message of planting more and
more trees so that we can conserve our nature. We are in engagement
with one of the RWA in West Delhi for supplying free plants for park
greenery.
Who is the man behind?
Livinggifts.co.in was a thought by Prabhjyot Singh, MBA from IMT
Ghaziabad, backed by Talvinder Kaur, accompanied by noble thoughts of
friends and family together, which helped in evolving an organization
from an Idea.
Future Course:
Livinggifts.co.in has established tie-ups with vendors across India for delivery of Natural Plants, Flowers, Gifts and apparels. After
successfully completing 2 years, we are in process of opening our
flagship GREEN Store in Delhi. We want to spread the message of Green
gifting from physical stores also, but one thing is clear, online portal
will be our prime focus as of now. We have been approached by few
incubators and right now looking for justifiable option for spreading
this message of Livinggifts.co.in as organization.
